Effects of our Increasing Use of Written Communication
In our daily life, written communication plays an essential role, and people use them more and more. Almost everyone knows how to use phone text messages in the world. In each country, they have their own popular products of instant messaging, such as QQ, Wechat, and Twitter. At the same time, our increasing use of written communication brings us both negative effects which influence our common life habits and atmosphere and positive effects which narrow the distance of the world and increase the work effciency.
First, there are two clear advantages which are narrowing the distance of the world and improving work efficiency. In our daily life, many people have the habit of reading the latest news. At that time, the increasing use of written communication can help us to be fast to connect the latest news all around the world. We can know about what is changing today, and many experts can analyze the immediate situation of the world. When some troubles occur, people can also ask for help immediately. For example, earthquake is one of the emergencies that we need to know immediately, and written communication can help us. The more we have, the faster we can reduce the pressure of disaster. Besides, international business is becoming common nowadays. Our increasing use of written communication can make great quality of work, such as reducing time. The positive effect of our increasing use of written communication really gives rise to convenience for us.
Although there are some positive effects, there are also disadvantages. Bad news is increasing, and effects someone’s life and attention are falling are two modest effects. Many children have smart phones and computers, and they always use them to send instant messages to their friends or for entertainment. Due to those causes, their attentions are decreasing and their ability of eye sight is falling. Wearing glasses is more and more common in my country. It causes serious bad effects of their future world and their quality of study is also down. The disadvantages are truly bad for people.
Personally, resulted from the increasing use of written communication, the most important effect is the decreasing of speaking ability. The situation is serious in children. It indeed increases the rate of Autism disorder. This psychological illness badly affects children’s future and the health of society. Besides, the terrible situation leads to bad communication among families. In some special meetings with family, people cannot respect their parents or grandparents. They are so focused on using written communication that ignoring what parents talk about them. As a result, parents are too angry to cancel the meeting. This kind new comes up in newspaper. However, we need to keep better cultural habits, and it is necessary to limit overuse
In a word, our increasing use of written communication gives us convenient which is bringing the world closer and troubles which are building some bad habits. The most important thing for us is to control our habits. To protect our own abilities and to make countries closer are essential. We can try our best to reduce the bad effects. It is necessary for us to balance effects.

The Effects of Written Communication
Sep 10th 2013, the new iPhone - iPhone 5s/5c came out. Sep 20th 2013, iPhone 5s went on sale. An extremely long line for the new product reflects iPhone always be the great leader of smart phones. Smart phones support the written communication, such as email, instant messaging, or phone text messages, which has increased incredibly in recent years. Written communication brings about several kinds of effects including money decrease, radiation problems and mental harm.
Written communication contributes to decrease in money spent. Compared with international calls, messages and emails are economical without a doubt. Calling someone in the US from China costs 1.86 yuan per minute, but every message only costs 0.86 yuan. Moreover, texting by iMessage can be free. Emails can be sent when the phone is connected to internet, and there’s no extra fee if it’s connected to WIFI.
Although written communication gives rise to saving money, its radiation could be a big problem. Especially for flights, phone radiation can distract the signals. That’s why flight attendants always ask people to shut down their phones when the plane is taking off. Radiation also causes eyes injuries. Commonly eyes feel hurt when staring at screen for a long time. Many students need to increase their prescription of glasses after summer vacation because they spent much longer time on texting.
Written communication is not only directly bad for the health but also harmful mentally. It keeps people away from their family and friends. As messaging becomes the mainly way to communicate, people spend time with phones more than family. They would rather stay in rooms alone texting others than go shopping with their mothers or talk to their fathers about the last soccer game. Not to mention enjoying a family party. Sometimes they go out for dinner with friends, they will text instead of having a chat when they finish the food. The worse result of texting is that they will miss the facial expressions. Facial expressions are a significant part of communication. They may misunderstand each other since they are not face to face. Same words may have different meanings with different facial expressions. When missing countenance expressions, a joke can be taken seriously. This can explain why people use messages to end a relationship as well. Without seeing the pain in the eyes, words they type could be heartless. It’s no exaggeration to say written communication set the foundation for loneliness.
Written communication leads to desired effect and modest effects at the same time. Though It helps saving money, it causes serious problem by radiation and hurt people mentally. Considering all the effects, we may need to reduce written communication for good and participate to social activities.

Nonverbal Communication
Culture is the characteristics of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, social habits, music and arts. Each inhabitant from all over the world has their own culture, so there are many cultural differences between regions from the entire world.  One of these differences is the language, but the most interesting difference between cultures is how people from different countries use their nonverbal signals to communicate. In fact, cultural differences in nonverbal communication can cause a huge cultural misunderstanding. Therefore, there are many differences in nonverbal communication that can cause huge misunderstandings between Kuwait and the U.S such as eye contact, gestures, and greetings.
One of the biggest differences in nonverbal communication between the US and Kuwait is eye contact. In the States, making eye contact is essential to communication. However, it does not matter if a person makes eye contact in Kuwait. Because of my different cultural background, making eye contact is not important to me when speaking to an American person. Therefore, many people in the US think that I am lying or hiding something and I am not willing to tell them. For example, in the last semester, I was unable to come to the next class because I had an appointment with my dentist at the same time of the class, so I had to explain to my teacher why I would be absent next class. While I was speaking I had not been looking at my teacher eyes directly, so my teacher thought I was lying. Thus, it made a full effect on me, and since then I have been making eye contact every time when I speak to an American person. Furthermore, eye contact is not the only nonverbal communication that causes misunderstandings between Kuwaitis and Americans.
Gestures are defined as a motion of the limbs or body made to express or help express thought or to emphasize speech. These gestures are most helpful when one is speaking to someone with no language in common. However, the meanings of hand gestures in different cultures may translate into different things. There are many different gestures between Kuwait and the US. For instance, in the US, people usually cross their index finger with their middle finger to make a wish, but the people in Kuwait will not understand this gesture because for wishes they face their two hands toward the sky. In addition, Kuwaiti inhabitants have a specific nonverbal signal that means that they do not want more coffee which is shaking the coffee cup. For example, when you are a guest in someone's home and you are done from drinking your cup of coffee, you should not say in word neither I am done nor I need more. In addition, instead of that you have to shake your cup of coffee if you want more or just leave your cup if you do not want more. This Kuwaiti habit can make a misunderstanding when Kuwaitis visit their American friends’ homes.
Beside gestures, there are differences of how people greet each other between Kuwait and the States. In Kuwait, males greet each other by shaking hands and kissing the right cheek one time, and if you have not met a friend for a long time, men in Kuwait use to hug and kiss the right cheek three times; however, in the US, you may be consider as rude or even gay if you kissed your friend’s cheek or if you gave him a big hug. In brief, US citizens greet each other by shaking hands and some friends have their own shake. In addition, in Kuwait it is impolite for men to shake women hands. Males and females greet each other in Kuwait by expressions without body touching, but in the US, men and women can shake hands. This difference between Kuwait and the US may cause misunderstandings between them. For example, if an American person meets a Kuwaiti person with his wife and he greets each of them by shaking hands, the Kuwaiti person will not accept that. In addition, the Kuwaiti will thought that the American person is flirting his wife.
In conclusion, each culture has their own nonverbal communication and knowing them is essential to avoid miscommunication. There are many differences between Kuwait and U.S cultures, and eye contact, gestures, and greetings are some of them. People should not be resentment if foreign people misunderstand their way of doing nonverbal communication.

Nonverbal Miscommunication
Nonverbal signals transfer information between a person to another. Some information needs to understand especially when the conversation is happened between people from different cultures. Misunderstandings nonverbal signals could happen between people from different countries and different cultures. Many people refuse nonverbal signals that come from other cultures without knowing it. Some people communicate through their nonverbal signals which can confuse other people. Sometimes nonverbal signals send a wrong message that cause problems with people who receive the message.
Eye contact is an example of nonverbal signals which cause miscommunication. Eye contact is culturally dependent. In Kuwait, young people are not allowed to look directly in the older people’s eyes for a long time. This behavior is impolite.  In the United States culture, it is important to look each other in the eyes during conversation. If one person doesn't, it gives the desired effect for other person such as thinking that he lying which reduces confidence in him. This small difference can lead to misunderstanding between people from these cultures. The Americans will think that the Kuwaitis are hiding something, and the Kuwaitis probably think that the Americans are being rude. There are many other examples of nonverbal signals that cause misunderstandings to each others.
Greeting each other is also culturally dependent. In Kuwait when a person greets another person, it is important to catch his right hand and shake it. Handshaking and kissing each other cheeks is also tradition. It shows respect and acceptance for another person. In Japan handshaking is not allowed. Japanese just bow when they greet someone. Handshaking is undesirable in Japanese culture. Handshaking disgusts Japanese people and reduces respect. However in Kuwait if the person greets without handshaking, it may cause resentment, and it shows displeasure of others. Misunderstanding can also be a result from different cultures in people's clothing color.
Sometimes clothing color reflects feeling of the person. For example: white color shows gladness, red means love, and black means sadness. In Kuwaiti culture, when someone dies, people who come for condolences and the dead person’s family must wear black clothes. That color in Kuwaiti culture means grief and sadness. In India people have to wear white colored clothes for the same event. However, in Kuwait white colored clothes means gladness in most cases. Therefore people must be careful in this small difference because it may lead to a misunderstanding for Kuwaitis, and it will raise the anger of Indian people.
In conclusion, nonverbal signals depend on the society’s culture. Before starting communication by these signals in another country, you should learn their meaning. Eye contact, handshaking, and clothing color can give rise to a lot of miscommunication.

                                                 Effects of Our Increasing Communication
Nowadays, people use lots of increasing communication, such as email, phone calls and text messages. They change people’s daily life because they have made communication easier. However, in the wider world, everything has a double nature. Therefore, increasing written communication has two positive effects, it makes information sharing faster and more affordable, and it also has a negative effect, and that is harmful for people’s safety and health.
First of all, increasing written communication makes information sharing faster. In the past, if people wanted to exchange information, they could only chat with each other or write letters, and that cost lots of time. But now, we can talk by phone or online. There are many different ways for us to share information. They made the world “smaller”. “Smaller” means people are closer to each other no matter where they are in the world. For example, many international students live in America, but they do not feel lonely as they can always video chat with their families and friends, and that is very convenient. Also, when students do homework, they can share their viewpoints online via Google Drive.
Secondly, communication is much more affordable than before. Everyone pays less money to get a smart phone or a computer, and sometimes the phone is free if you sign a contract with the company. Text messages, internet phone calls are also free. In addition, you can login to your email, and send email to others. These types of software or apps are usually free. However, before that, many people did not have enough money to buy a phone or computer when they were just produced a several years ago, as they were very expensive. But now is different, they become very affordable and are commonly used.
Unfortunately, increasing communication also has harmful effects for people’s safety and health. Mobile devices are widespread, so many people can’t live without their phones. There were many traffic accidents happen because drivers talk or text while driving. Also, many health studies and reports have noted the negative effects of using electronic devices. The radiation from these devices would have harmful effects on the human brain and caused anomalies in behavioral patterns, such as changing the sleep patterns, irritability, lack of patience and abruptness, especially for pre-teens and teenagers.
All in all, increasing communication has two sides, the positive side is making information sharing faster and more affordable, and the negative side is harmful for people’s health and safety. That being said, increasing communication is still a highly beneficial tool, and it helps people with many tasks and activities. We can’t live without them.

 The Effects of New Communication
Can you think about our life without phones and Internet? In the past, if someone wants to have a talk with people who live far away from him or her, the only way is to send mails. That would take a really long time, and you would never know if the mail was eaten by a dog or was thrown into the lake, but everything changed now. We have cellphones and computers, and we can talk to anyone we want with so many different ways. The Internet and cellphones make people have a really fast and cheap way to connect with others. Even through new written communication is really convenient, I still think there are some problems with it: it is bad for people’s health, it is bad for people’s talking skills, and all the new ways may put the airplane in danger sometime.
The first result from increasing written communication is that people’s health becomes worse than in the past. During the last 15 years, people have more and more problems with muscles and bones, and the number of this group people increased about 400%, and most of the increased percent are based on computers and cellphones. In my mind, Chinese students spend less than 1 hour in sending e-mails and messages, but in 2012, for me and my friends or my classmates, the times have an explosive growth: as some researches show that more students spend 2-4 hours every day in sending e-mails and messages, and even two times in the weekends. The hospital noticed that people have more problems with their fingers and cervical vertebra, and they believe it has a strong relation with the new written communication methods.
The second effect, of people spending lots of time in written communication, is we lose our speaking skills day by day. That means maybe in the future, we can write as a author, but speak like a recorder voice. Actually, it happens now. I know an internet writer; she is my high school classmate. She can write very beautiful sentences and an amazing essay. Also, she likes creating new messages and then sends to us, and usually the messages are very fun and interesting. If you just talk to her by emails and messages, you may think that she is a sun-girl, but as a classmate, we know that she is really afraid to talk to others face to face. In fact, in our mind we think that she is very shy and quiet. We used to try to help her speak more, but unfortunately we failed. Written communication should have a modest effect for our life, but it cannot be our whole life.
The increasing use of written communication just has negative effects not only for people, but also for other things like the airplane. When you send an email or message to your friends in the airplane that means you send airwaves. As we know, airwaves will disturb the airplane’s normal communication with the airport control center; it may make the airplane in danger. So when airplanes start flying, they always ask people turn off their electronic devices.
In short, written communication gives us a fast and cheap way to connect, but it still has lots of negative effects in our life. If we control how and when we use it, it is really a good thing for human’s development, but if we spend lots of time and energy on written communication, it will be terrible things for people’s health, and bad for our talking skills. Also, it will put the airplane or other things in danger. As we know, the most important reason that human is stronger than other animals is we have a complete speaking system, so we cannot lose the speaking skills. Let us have a talking and writing life!

The Importance of Nonverbal Communication by Christel Faith Pacsi

The Importance of Nonverbal Communication

The world is becoming more globalized and people have more chances to another country by TV, magazine and the Internet. Because of these useful things, we can learn about famous places, food and the general details about another culture. As a result, many people will travel to a different country to see what they saw in TV, magazines and the Internet. On the other hand, these things don`t teach us about the nonverbal communication that causes misunderstandings between people, like tourists and the local residents, but we forgot the importance of nonverbal communication. Why we forgot the importance of nonverbal communication? Why misunderstanding will happen? To find the answers to these questions, the difference of the nonverbal communication between Japan and Kuwait will be explored.
Eye contact is a type of nonverbal communication that cause misunderstanding. In Japan, we look into the eyes of the person when we are having a conversation. However, some people can`t look long straight at the person who talks to them. This happens because they are shy and feel confused. Moreover, the situation become worse if they meet somebody for the first time. In Kuwait having eye contact during the conversation are fine to them in contrast to the Japanese. The meaning of changes when they are arguing. During an argument, people from Kuwait can`t have an eye contact with their parents or older persons. If they made an eye contact with the elder person in the argument, it would make them angry. This is rude and you are showing that you have no respect to them. When the people of these both country meets and have an conversation, probably the people from Kuwait will be disappointed. They doesn`t know why the Japanese are being rude to them. Also, when they see the Japanese having an argument with their parents, they will be shocked and be more disappointed. They think that Japanese don`t show respect to their parents. Japanese don`t have the same way to respect their parents during the argument. A big misunderstanding would happen because of the people in Kuwait don`t know that Japanese shows their respect in a different way. In addition, most people show their respect and love by greetings.

People all over the world have their own nonverbal communication for greeting to show your respect and love. Americans like to shake hands or hug the person as a greeting. Even in Kuwait they shake hands or hug each other except for the person of a different gender. Even if you meet your friend of a different gender, you can`t greet them this way. These greetings have no problem if it is their family. They can shake hands or hug each other. When it comes to Japan, they don`t greet with shacking hands or hug each other. They greet with a bow to show their respect and love. In addition, they don`t hug their family like the people in Kuwait. Because they are shy, hugging isn`t the way they show their respect to their family. If people in Kuwait and Japanese meet and greet with their own ways, they would be surprised. Because of the difference they might think the person in front them doesn`t care for them or they are mean. The scary thing is misunderstandings will happen the first time they meet. If you don`t know the meaning of the movements, they might judge you as a mean person.
Each country has a nonverbal communication when they eat food or drink. Every country has very important drinks in their daily life and they love it very much. Japan and Kuwait have these kinds of drinks. In Japan, they like drinking green tea and they like serving it to the people who visit their house. The Japanese don`t have nonverbal communication for drinking tea but in Kuwait they do. Arabic coffee is an important drink to people in Kuwait. They also like serving it to their guests. There is important meaning and rules to drink it. The first rule is when they carry the coffee, they have to carry the cup with their right hand. Why can`t it be the left hand? The big reason is the left hand has bad meaning and it is a tradition. According to this rule, it means that you can`t shake hands with the left hand if you meet people from Kuwait. The second rule is when the guest shakes the cup, it means "thank you" and there is another meaning that they don`t want another cup of coffee. If you don`t know this rule and you visit their house, you will be rude and you will also drink coffee  the whole time on your visit. The fun time will be awkward with this misunderstanding.
Unlikely misunderstanding can cause negative thinking of people. When people become interested in another country they only focus on learning the language and culture. However, they think that all people have the same nonverbal communication as they do. That is why understandings will happen and make them disappointed. In contrast, misunderstanding can be positive when we accept the difference. Because of the difference of the nonverbal communication is the part if the culture.
